Prolog : Swallowed by the Darkness
R. John Quisenberry

Eye of darkness

As the darkness fills my vision, and the life fades from my body, I feel the numbness spread. The poisons poured into my aching stomach steal through my veins with a speed that scares me. Thinking back on the events that brought me here, to my death, I feel an iron certainty that I did my best and can find no fault with myself. I failed, but I did my best. It just was not enough. Maybe the next life will hold more hope for me. As I release my last breath, I think of the horrible fate Iris faces because I failed.
